Being asked to join the staff of East Heights was a chance to come home. Having been born and baptized into this congregation, my roots in East Heights run deep. My mother and grandmother joined the church in 1949. My parents were married in the chapel in 1955. I am a product of the Wichita Public Schools and have my degree from Oklahoma City University in Early Childhood/Elementary Education with a minor in Music/Vocal Performance. Having previously been a classroom teacher for 13 years, I have been on staff as director of Children’s Ministries since August 2008.
Bonnie Luther
Born in Hereford, TX, Bonnie Luther was baptized into the church by her grandfather, a United Methodist Pastor for over 45 years. Her family moved to Wichita when she was two years old and joined East Heights UMC in 1990. While in high school, Bonnie began working in the nursery at East Heights while also teaching 2 and 3 year-old Sunday School. After graduating from East High, Bonnie earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Emporia State University, with a minor in Ethnic and Gender Studies. She graduated form the University of Kansas in 2002 as a Licensed Masters Level Social Worker. While in Lawrence Bonnie worked for the Lawrence Public Schools and was the Nursery Coordinator at Central United Methodist Church. Bonnie is excited to be reunited with the congregation at East Heights once again. She looks forward to developing new friendships and watching another generation of children grow up in the church.
Stacy Trapp
A mother of two small children, Stacy has a passion to serve the community’s smallest Christians. Having completed her Master’s Degree in Sociology from Wichita State, she recognizes the importance of social as well as educational development in the enrichment of children’s lives. Children’s Day Out is often one of the first social experience children have with their peers and her vision is to create an environment for children to discover, learn, and play in a Christian setting. She enjoys spending time with her family, scrapbooking, and traveling.
