DanLord-MSFTEast Heights’ Fall Kickoff & BBQ Dinner

 “Faith, Family, and Spiritual Formation

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

6-8 p.m., in Hedrick Hall with

Dr. Dan Lord, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at Friends University

My how time flies and this summer is no exception!  With school starting soon, it is already time to plan for the Fall.  Join the East Heights family for a fun-filled evening of inspiration, fellowship, and a delicious BBQ Dinner as we kickoff the return to our Fall Activities on August 6th in Hedrick Hall.

Families of all shapes, forms, sizes, and stages will find inspiration and understanding as Dr. Dan Lord highlights the evening by speaking on the topic of “Spiritual Formation Through Family Relationships.” Dr. Lord says that “family” is the most important relationship in our spiritual development and our understanding of God is first forged in these relationships. Our earliest perceptions of God can be positive or negative depending upon how our spiritual maturation has occurred in the family context. Thus the experience of our family and the formation of our spiritual lives are unavoidably related.

Dr. Lord’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Pastoral Psychology and Counseling from Boston University (emphasis in marriage and family therapy), and a Masters of Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology. He is also licensed in Clinical Marriage and Family Therapy, and has a B.A. in English Literature and Language.

The evening will also include a time for adults to view the table displays and visit with representatives of the many ministries, small groups, and Bible studies offered at East Heights this Fall, while the children meet our new Director of Children’s Ministry, Becky Hilts, and finish off the evening with a short activity just for them in the Summit (our children’s Sunday School area.)
